Enrique Vargas offers to divert PAN funds for repairs in an exclusive private residential zone

Enrique Vargas del Villar

Enrique Vargas del Villar, a PAN senator, allegedly offered to divert resources from the PAN parliamentary group in the State of Mexico to repair a sinkhole in the exclusive Bosque Real residential area in Huixquilucan, State of Mexico.

Some residents of the high-end neighborhood received a WhatsApp audio recording in which the senator can be heard discussing an agreement with Marcos Salame, chairman of the Bosque Real administration board. The agreement would have the PAN parliamentary group in the State of Mexico cover 70% of the repair costs for the sinkhole that appeared on Boulevard Bosque Real.

This sinkhole, which opened in late August 2024 within the residential complex, measures 10 meters in length and 6 meters in depth (about 33 feet in length and 20 feet in depth). Since the sinkhole is located within private property, the repair responsibility falls on the real estate company that owns or manages the complex, not the state government.

However, under the senator’s alleged proposal, the company would only pay 30% of the total repair cost, which amounts to 100 million pesos (around 5 million dollars), while the PAN caucus in the State of Mexico—funded by public money—would cover the rest.

Vargas’ proposal also sparked discontent within the PAN’s State of Mexico caucus, as many members were frustrated by the unilateral decision to allocate their funds.
