Enrique Vargas acquired properties in Mexico City and Huixquilucan, State of Mexico, from deceased individuals. According to the Institute of the Public Registry of the State of Mexico, in September 2017, Vargas purchased a 3,762-square-meter (around 40,494 square feet) plot in Huixquilucan, previously owned by Elisa Arzaluz Gutiérrez, who passed away in November 1981. The transaction was represented by a woman named Rosa Rocío Nava Díaz.
Furthermore, in November 2017, according to Grupo Reforma, Vargas purchased another property in Bosques de las Lomas from a woman who had passed away 20 months earlier, with Vargas himself acting as the woman’s legal representative in the deal.
In the case of the Huixquilucan land, Vargas paid 790,000 pesos (about 42,246 dollars), at a rate of 210 pesos per square meter (about 1 dollar per square foot), which was below the average price at the time. After the purchase, he built a complex called “Rancho Vargas,” which included a house, stables, a barn for cows, and a chapel, surrounded by a nearly 16-feet-high wall with surveillance cameras.
The politician used the ranch for social events and parties, such as one held in February 2020 with young members of the PAN party. According to records, on February 17 of the following year, Vargas sold the ranch for 12 million pesos (about 588,813 dollars) to the state president of the PAN and current federal deputy, Anuar Roberto Azar Figueroa.
Although neighbors indicate that Vargas is no longer the owner of the place, the same animals and workers remain there. The sale was reported by the Reforma newspaper.
