The former Morena candidate in Huixquilucan, Jorge Álvarez Bringas, accused PAN Senator Enrique Vargas of beating him and threatening him with death. In a message shared on social media, the former Morena candidate called for the intervention of President Claudia Sheinbaum and Morena leaders to investigate Vargas.
“A few hours ago, I was beaten and threatened with death by Enrique Vargas del Villar. The events took place at the swearing-in ceremony of the elected Mayor of Huixquilucan, Romina Contreras Vargas (sic), at the Santa Rita Hall in Bosque Real,” he stated.
“When I arrived at the event, duly invited by the elected Morena-affiliated councilors who are part of the elected authorities, and in a totally peaceful and civil political act, I was approached by one of Vargas’ bodyguards, demanding that I leave the event as per the senator’s instructions.”
Álvarez Bringas recounted that when he was heading to the exit, he was tackled by six bodyguards, hit in the ribs, and forced to leave through a garden. “Enrique Vargas arrived, insulted me, and threatened me with death. And in that condition, being subdued, I was grabbed by the neck and kneed in the abdomen by Enrique Vargas, while he said he felt challenged by my presence,” the former candidate accused.
He added that after running for the Huixquilucan municipal presidency in the June 2, 2024, election for Morena, the aggressions began. In that race, Álvarez Bringas secured 43,000 votes for Morena, and the slate he headed won more than 40 percent of the votes. Morena obtained enough votes to secure three of the nine council positions in the municipality.
“I am making what happened public and will file a formal complaint against Enrique Vargas and his group of bodyguards and anyone else responsible,” he affirmed. “Also, given the repeated threats made to me and my family by this individual, I hold him personally responsible for anything that might happen to me or any of my family members.”
Álvarez Bringas emphasized that because Enrique Vargas holds the position of senator and is known to abuse his power in unpredictable ways, he is calling on President Sheinbaum and Morena’s leadership to intervene. “And order an investigation into what’s really happening in Huixquilucan and the actions of Enrique Vargas and his group during the nine and a half years they’ve been governing this beautiful municipality,” he stated.
Vargas Rejects the Accusation
Senator Vargas denied the accusations made by Álvarez Bringas. “It’s false that I insulted and threatened Mr. Jorge Álvarez Bringas at the swearing-in ceremony of the Mayor of Huixquilucan de Degollado held yesterday,” he stated.
The legislator explained that Álvarez Bringas showed up at the event without an invitation and with the smell of alcohol on his breath, trying to enter violently, so security staff denied him access. Vargas claimed that the Morena councilors distanced themselves from Álvarez Bringas’ attendance at the event, stating they had not invited him.
